The Palate Patrol found their way to the Granite City Food & Brewery this week to inform our readers of yet another great establishment they will definitely want to check out. The Patrol shared Spinach Artichoke Dip – Scrumptious! Since GCFB is known for locally brewed beer the guys just had to sample 5 different beers. I think their MUG CLUB will be getting some new members! Here’s what our staff had to say:

John R.: “Thursday’s soup is Cheesy Chicken Tortilla so I started with my cup as well as 2/3 of Dee’s cup of soup. My entrée was the Bedda Chedda Burger and Waffle Fries.  I’m the Burger Connoisseur of the group - this is 1 of the best 3 burgers ever! To accompany the 10 lbs. of cheese I ate, I tried a tall glass of the home brewed Duke of Wellington Ale. It had a great deep, almost bitter taste with a few touches of grapefruit. Ahhh.”

Dee J.:  “I had the Chicken Caesar Chalupa tossed in buffalo sauce. It’s a plate of small crispy tortilla chips brushed with Caesar dressing topped with chicken that has been tossed in buffalo sauce, cheese and tomatoes. The chips circle the plate with Caesar Salad in the center. This is one of those items you’ll crave after you try it – simply to die for!”

Mary S.: “I had Spinach Artichoke Chicken with loaded garlic mashed potatoes. “Loaded” does not always mean “loaded”, but at Granite City it does! And, not with anything but the best – all real, fresh and made from scratch. YUM! The Server and Manager were awesome and I look forward to taking advantage of their Mug Club!”

Mark J.: “Best part of my meal was the Cheesy Chicken Tortilla Soup. Hands down all 5 Palate Patrol members agreed it’s the best soup in town – that we know of.  The Chicago Style Italian Beef with chips that I ordered for my entrée was slow roasted topped with onions, peppers and cheese. My appetite was so satisfied with that fabulous soup that they could have served me anything and it would have been OK! I’ll be back again soon.”

Scott W.: “I was not feeling the greatest and was bummed about it because Granite City is one of my favorite restaurants. Their Broad Axe Stout or Specialty 2 Pull Beer are my choices for beverages when I go there. Today I tried the Ale & Cheddar Soup and Baked 3 Cheese Ravioli. Portions are huge and “to-go” boxes are quite normal.”

It is evident by visiting with Managing Partner, Chris Lama that when their doors open for business every day, it’s all about the customer. They believe in empowering their people so they can take control of making their customer’s dining experience the best it can be. Our highest rating is a five and we voted unanimously it should have been a 10!
