The Palate Patrol is pleased to be back on duty after the holiday break. This week found us at KC’s Family Restaurant on N. Minnesota. Most of us remember it, & still call it, the Crack’d Pot. Here’s what the Patrol had to say:

Mark J.: – “The Kansas City Potato Casserole was my choice. It had potatoes, green peppers, steak, onions, mozzarella & mushrooms. I liked the fact that I mixed & matched with a special order & the cook got it right! KC’s is a great place for guys to go with a hearty appetite!”

Dee J.: – “I had a Bacon Cheeseburger with Mashed Potatoes. It was excellent! All of us had salad bar &  I have to say the Bean & Ham soup that was on it is the best in town! Do yourself a favor – take your family to KC’s and try it; you’ll be glad you did. My favorite part of KC’s was visiting with Carol (cook) – not only do they have great prices and fantastic food, but some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

John R.: “The KC’s Royal Burger with crispy bacon & medium egg with Steak Fries was my choice for lunch. The soup, salad bar, pecan pie as well as bites off everyone’s plate pretty much filled me up! You spend very little money and walk out extremely full and satisfied. This is a place I’ll be going back to.”

Mary S.: “I ordered the special – Scalloped Potatoes & Ham. It was the best home cooking ever (sorry Mom!). The homemade chocolate chip cookie right from the oven I had after my meal is one of the reasons I’m taking my family back to KC’s.

Scott W.: “My lunch was the 8oz. Angus Steak with Steak Fries & Texas Toast. The Pumpkin Pie for dessert was an awesome way to top off an already fantastic meal. I would go in and be able to make a complete meal out of their Bean & Ham Soup – unbelievable flavor!”

Mike Andersen owns & operates KC’s. We found his mom Carol cooking, then  hugging customers, at the till, holding the door for us, etc. Each person leaving had a big smile on their face & waved to her, called her by name & told her they’d see her tomorrow. Pretty rare customer service! A well kept secret is that Carol’s Homemade Chicken Rice Soup on Tuesday’s is the best invention since the hula hoop & her homemade Banana Cream pie runs a close second. Be watching for the Palate Patrol in 2 weeks – you never know where we’ll show up.
